Let’s get started y’all!!
What is Self Care Counseling in Minneapolis?
Let me explain this in an ass-backward way from a sex therapist’s perspective in what I commonly see in my therapy practice in Minnesota. As a sex therapist in Minneapolis, a lot of times I see folks that don't put themselves first and that's beneath the surface of what we're working on in sex therapy. Sex therapy relates to self-love, self-care, and burnout in so many different ways that we don't even realize. A lot of the time I see this being underneath the surface of the clients that I work with and my therapy practice in Minnesota. Self-Care Counseling focuses on self-care routines, sleep cycles, eating habits, physical self, spiritual self, emotional self-care, sexual self-care, social self-care, self-care tips, time off, burnout, daily stressors, stress response cycles, how to cope with mental health symptoms, and more! If your sex life is suffering, your self-care life is suffering. Self-Care Counseling, sex therapy, and sexual self-care all really tie in together. If you’re too busy for sex, you’re too busy for yourself. If that sentence resonates, that may be a red flag for you to get into therapy right away! If you're thinking Jackie, I don't know where to start when it comes to planning a self-care day in Minneapolis, I got you!
Self Care Tips for Mental Health
As humans living in the busy Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, How to Plan a Self-Care day is an important concept for us to learn. You may think, what are the self-care tips for mental health? Why is self-care important? Often pondering these questions, just know as someone who practices therapy and provides self-care counseling, it’s a tricky concept for folks from time to time. Here are my personal favorite self-care tips for mental health to take into consideration before you are planning a self-care day in Minneapolis for you! Let these self-care tips be your guide to planning your day for you!
Schedule one day off for YOUR self-care. Nobody else. Hold those boundaries friends! Don’t open work emails, put social media on pause, stop replying to texts/calls for a little while, get outside, or out of your house, and explore the Twin Cities areas. Follow these tools and see how you do, remember, you have no one to blame for breaking boundaries, but you. Don’t self-sabotage your self-care day!! Go to places you’ve been longing to, and do it for you, boo! You’ll thank sex therapist Jackie later when ya do!
Listen to your body, mind, and heart to understand what types of self-care activities you need to plan for yourself. As a therapist in Minneapolis who practices self-care consistently, trust me when I say, this changes A LOT over time. There are so many types of self-care categories, that it’s best to slow down and think of what you truly need.
Taking a break is to be at peace, feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and calm. If your self-care practice doesn’t do this, switch up your self-care routine or self-care day off! Self-care is meant to make you feel good, if you feel bad afterward, that’s a clear indicator of changing things up!
Journal about your experiences or reflect and take mental note of what self-care practices worked! Now, I know everyone who reads this blog out there is gonna be like Jackie, none of your therapy crap on journaling and why that mumbo jumbo is so great. I’m here to tell you a SECRET ABOUT JOURNALING: our bodies and minds remember the experience better. If you had a negative self-care day in Minneapolis, you’ll remember, and a positive self-care day in Minneapolis, you’ll remember even more! Journaling helps with discernment, making decisions, and opening up to new possibilities of self-care in Minneapolis. Okay, rant over from this therapist over here, and if you’re not a writer, be a reflector. Reflect on the experience, understand what you liked/disliked about your self-care experience. This is meant to help you with your self-care routines, so you can remember what feels right for you!
Remember, rest is productive. Sometimes we guilt and shame ourselves over resting. This therapist is here to say, FUCK THAT, NO MORE!! Let’s accept that we can’t do it all in a day, and be gentle with ourselves. Somedays you’re gonna get a shit ton done off the to-do and others, it’s not happening pal, sorry not sorry to speak the truth! Be kind and compassionate to yourself and your body when it needs rest. We don’t want you to burn out!
When we take care of ourselves, we show up better for this world. We show up better for our families, our friends, our loved ones, and most importantly ourselves. Real talk from a therapist in Minneapolis who provides self-care counseling. If you don’t take care of yourself, nobody else is going to boo! Make sure you put yourself first, every morning, every day, and see how you transform the relationship of self-love as the best one ever! Taking care of ourselves can look like many different types of self-care. Be it, physical self-care appointments, going to therapy in Minneapolis, seeking out holistic healing coaching services, seeking acupuncture, chiropractors, reiki healers, and more! Do what’s right for you! Self-love and self-care are not selfish, it's significantly necessary. It's important and we need to be able to show up for ourselves.

Easy Self Care Tips to Reflect On
Tip number one, in order to plan a self-care day for yourself, is leaning into the type of self-care that you need. Is it physical, sexual, spiritual, emotional, social, financial, or something else? Take note of what you need. What are your body, mind, and soul telling you?
Tip number two, figure out the type of self-care that your body needs. Slow down, take a minute or two. Notice what sensations thoughts, feelings, and emotions come up. What is your mind say? What does your heart say? What is your gut say? Connect the two with your intuitive sense of yourself. They'll never steer you wrong. Just remember, you know yourself better than anyone else!
Tip number three think about different self-care activities that bring you pleasure and satisfaction. Sometimes we need to be focused on slowing down when we're always go go go and speeding up. Do you need to slow down in Minneapolis? Do you need to rest? Do you need to get up and move around a little bit? Notice what your body is telling you in your brain, heart, and gut. Again, you can trust yourself. Take note and go back to the categories and connect the two. Maybe you need a couple of different things for self-care in Minneapolis. Perhaps it’s balancing getting outside in the Twin Cities and resting on the grass nearby a lake you love could be your self-care routine. Maybe it's I want to be able to go walk I want to take myself on a date to a new restaurant that I've really been excited about and wanted to try in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Tip number four, have fuck it moments of self-care. Think through the shit you want to fucking do that no one else wants to fucking do. Are there stores, places, coffee shops, restaurants, or activities you love, but your friends and fam don’t? That’s your key sign to say fuck it, and DO YOU, FOR YOU!! This is where you trust your intuition to lead you.
