When is Pride 2022?

The Twin Cities Pride Festival was held at Loring Park in Minneapolis at the end of June. The Pride Festival was June 24-26th, and this year they brought back the Pride Parade! However, as a Sex Therapist, I truly believe Pride is 365 days a year, it is never over. Pride to me means we teach, educate, advocate, call shameful shit out, and then celebrate! Pride Month is not just about rainbows, it’s about the celebration of history and continuing to fight shame.

It’s about….
✨ Calling out sexual shaming
✨ Educating people on why it’s hurtful
✨ Processing your personal pain
✨ Showing up 365 not just in June
✨ Sharing resources that are beneficial for learning
✨ Remembering the history started with the “T” part of the community
✨ You check any biases or stereotypes & unlearn doing harm
✨ Having hard conversations with family members, loved ones, & friends

Of course, this list could go on and on, but this sex therapist won’t lecture ya anymore, for now ;) Anywho, there are also other events that are happening in honor of Pride outside of Pride Month, so definitely keep reading to find out about local Twin Cities Pride events in the near future!!

What is the Twin Cities Pride Festival?

If you’re unfamiliar with what Pride is, let me explain it for a hot second to you. The Twin Cities Pride Festival is a big ass festival event to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, local creators, businesses, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, and other local Minneapolis supporters! The spirit of the Twin Cities LGBTQIA+ community was not lost on me this year. The Pride Festival was absolutely incredible and I met so many awesome people when I was tabling there! It’s located in Loring Park, Minneapolis located at 1382 Willow St. Minneapolis, MN 55403 across from the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden or aka the Cherry & the Spoon famous sculpture at 725 Vineland Pl, Minneapolis, MN 55403. Here’s a parking tip, don’t if you’re going to Twin Cities Pride Festival next year. It’s madness!! No joke, I road through on a moped, and it was a shit show to get from Minneapolis, MN back to my office in St. Louis Park, MN a 20-minute ride took around 45 minutes to an hour. Definitely try to find a ride to Minneapolis Pride if you go down to the festival next year!! FYI, it gets HOT AS FUCK at the Pride Festival in the Twin Cities. Definitely go with a lighter, airy outfit, and bring some water! You will be walking a lot! Wear comfortable shoes, it can take hours if you wanted to explore all the booths at the Pride Festival in Minneapolis. I recommend bringing a big bag as well. People will try to promote their business, offers, or marketing items and tools and you may be to Minnesota nice to say no to tons of pieces of paper that you take home with ya! There’s lots of activities, music, entertainers, food, and shopping experiences as well. You won’t be bored!! If you’re planning on going during a less crowded time, get there ASAP when it starts in the morning. This year I believe the Pride Festival started as early as 10 or 11 am and ended around 5 or 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Friday night is usually the beer dabbler across the street at the Sculpture Garden, here’s that address again for next year, 725 Vineland Pl, Minneapolis, MN 55403, and if beer or cider is your thing, I recommend checking it out! There are designated driver tickets available as well, if you go, please consider having a DD, taking an Uber, Lyft, and not driving to and from. As a sex therapist who works in Minneapolis, I wanted to be able to share these tips and tell you how incredible Pride in the Park was this year! If you are from a surrounding state like North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, or Iowa and are considering coming to the Pride Festival in Minneapolis, I highly suggest it!!

LGBTQ+ Owned Businesses Near Me

Another way to support LGBTQ+ Owned Businesses in Minneapolis is by checking them out 365, not just during Pride Month! Below are a list of local businesses that I have checked out and am excited to go to in the future that I haven’t been to in Minneapolis yet. Speaking of the future, let’s start there!

If you’re into Astrology, Crystals, Tarot, Oracle Cards, Essential Oils, and the so-called “Woo Woo” like me, you don’t want to miss The Future Minneapolis. Here is the location 2223 E 35th St, Minneapolis, MN 55407 and the Future MPLS Website here to take a look at more in store! I’ll definitely come back and do a featured blog once I hit them up!!

If you are in need of a good cup of coffee, tea, salad, sandwich, or bakery item, then you have to check out my cousin’s coffee shop, Cuppa Java in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood. Here is the address, 400 Penn Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55405, street parking is completely free, but I suggest if you go there, leave ASAP! I also park on the cross street from Penn Avenue South I take a left onto Cedar Lake Road South, flip a u-turn, and park on the left side of the map if you put it into Google Maps. They get a busy rush of people in Minneapolis out of nowhere somedays and you may be waiting for your goodies, but I can assure you, it’s worth the wait. Hence, also why I park where I do so I can easily pull out in a busy rush! My favorite items here are the Iced Chai Tea lattes, Breakfast Sandwiches, All Salads are incredible and of course hot sandwiches! The buffalo chicken hot sandwich is my favorite!

Pride Month is my Birthday Month, hell yeah June, and Cancerian season! Where my fellow Cancers at?? Anyway, I really wanted some pretty plants and flowers for my balcony this year. I had seen photos of Tangletown Gardens online, but never went into their store in Minneapolis. I went and instantly fell in love! I definitely spent too much time and money in there, totally worth it. Happy Birthday to me right?! Anywhoo, Tangletown Gardens is located at 5353 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55419 across the street from Wise Acre Eatery, 5401 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55419, which I have also not gone to, but will share my honest review in a future blog post! Both of these are LGBTQ+ Owned Businesses in Minneapolis. So if you get yourself some beautiful plants, flowers, gardening tools, or landscaping materials and work up an appetite, then head over to Wise Acre eatery across the street! Parking over here was kind of a hot mess, of course, I went on a Saturday morning, so keep that in mind! I parked on the street behind the gardens, 1st Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN with the cross street of East 54th Street, it comes up right after and you take a left and there’s free street parking.

I hope this information on Pride in and outside of the Twin Cities Metro area was helpful!
